Mini skid steer for narrow access. The right machine.
A narrow passage doesn't have to slow down the work in the back garden. With a narrow mini skid steer, you bring soil and building materials closer to where they're needed. Here you'll learn which dimensions and details you need to choose the right machine for your access.

The narrowest point decides
Measure the clear width with the gate fully open, taking posts, fittings and stops into account. Then walk the entire route to the job, because it can get narrower beside the house, at a corner or in a bend than at the entrance.
Also note low roofs, thresholds and steps. With photos from both directions and a tape measure in the picture, it's possible to judge how the machine can approach, turn and work.
Narrow machine, matching equipment
The Derette V1000 is specified with an overall width of 900 mm. For your access, side clearance, approach and the width of the attachment also count. A 90 cm gate offers no side clearance for a 900 mm machine.
So match loader and tool together. A wider bucket can limit access. Use the gate check for an initial selection and send us the dimensions of your route.
Prepare the route
Record surface, gradient and sensitive areas. On slab paths, covers and freshly filled ground, the load-bearing capacity must suit the loaded machine. On lawns, soil moisture and turning manoeuvres affect the tracks left behind.
Define a fixed transport route and keep finished areas clear. Have soil and building materials unloaded so the access remains open. That saves manoeuvring and extra trips.
Think about delivery and exit
Plan a suitable parking and unloading spot. The machine needs a clear route from the trailer to the job and back. If you transport it yourself, match machine and trailer weight to the towing capacity, permissible vehicle values and driving licence.
For work in the garden, loading space and turning options also count. A suitable access only gives you an advantage if you can do the necessary transport work behind it.
Bring these details to the selection
| Detail | What you record |
|---|---|
| Width | Narrowest clear point in millimetres |
| Route | Photos of gate, passage and bends |
| Obstacles | Steps, thresholds and height restrictions |
| Ground | Surface, gradient and sensitive areas |
| Job | Material quantities, loads and the tool needed |
With these details you'll find a machine for both access and job. The buying checklist helps with the next step.
Send us the narrowest clear access width and photos of the entire access. With these we'll choose a loader with tool that suits both your route and your work.
Frequently asked questions
Does a 900 mm wide loader fit through a 90 cm gate?
With exactly 900 mm of clear opening, there's no side clearance. Measure the clear width and take the approach and attachment into account.
Can the bucket be wider than the machine?
Yes. Measure the entire combination that has to pass through the access.
What details does the consultation need?
The narrowest clear width, photos of the route, the ground and your jobs including material quantities or loads.
